The Conception
Ida an ancient African leaf shaped spear, a symbol of strength, fearlessness, and protection. Divine to shine upon to enlighten. Ida Divine married into one of the first mob families of Las Vegas. She played a key role by delivering cash payouts throughout the US to mob bosses who had a stake in the gambling and casinos. Probably one of the first “ride or die chicks” she represents power and courage how else you can explain her ability to elude the FBI and never be harmed by the mob bosses she delivered suitcases of money to. She owed her survival to being smart, highly respected, and classy.
So when you hear the name Ida Divine think bold, classy, powerful. A singer with vocals so fierce, that when she sings it’s like a light shinning into the cracks and crevices of the soul to a place where pain seeps, often forgotten but always felt like the prick of a needle, feeling gone as soon as it comes.
A native of Staten Island, NY she grew up watching mob movies with her father and hanging out with one of her best friends who is the sister of one of the members of the Wu Tang Clan. With Hip Hop as her baby sitter rapping, singing, and creating lyrics was as natural as hopscotch and jacks. Extremely shy as a child no one knew about the gifts she possessed.
The Birth
Fast forward to 2008 while on a cruise Ida became overwhelmed with excitement and boldness and decided to get up and sing karaoke. She impressed the crowd so much with her singing that she took home the trophy that night for best performance. The shyness spell was broken. Her passion for singing and performing was ignited and she returned home and began pursuing her passion with every free minute she had. In between of being a mother of 2 boys, working a full time job in the healthcare field she performed at open mic and wrote songs and laid tracks. Currently, the hip hop songstress is working in the studio with Inspectah Deck from Wutang Clan, beats from E Jones under 9th Wonders Camp, Jojo King, and Darae “Bo Dega Beats”. To her singing it’s as close as you can get to God to listen for what he has to say.
Ida Divine-ly rejuvenates hip hop in its purest form. She creates mini selves within her many worlds formed by her Di – verse melodies. The word she sings and raps about penetrates the heart of the listener unto the fullest degree. Her lyrical flow is sagacious sounding rhymes giving off advice for ordinary people to recognize. She is more than Hip Hop, more than R & B; she is the third “I” in divinity. She brings out the blues we go thru as a people; she sings definitions of contemplated female thoughts, and points out realistic truths of life experience. Ida Divine composes analogies through her songs like an artist who paints a picture that gives off subliminal messages. |
