Words are a grouping of letters, formless, void, with very little meaning until poet, author, and rhythmic humanitarian, Bluz speaks. Like an anomaly that only happens once every thousands of years, his voice rises above the incessant babbling of many voices transforming words into lyrical messengers traveling on the sound waves of life depositing particles of possibilities into the ears of all who listen.
Born Boris Rogers, Bluz, is a supramind of poetic expression, channeling the human experience eloquently into gifts of metaphors and similes. As slam master and coach of a team of competitive poets called Slam Charlotte, Bluz led his team to victory in 2007 and 2008. He is ranked 13 th in the world and won two 2010 Emmys. He is the author of the book “Articulate Slang” and has produced three audio releases.
During his six years of performing Bluz has hosted and or has been master of ceremony for the Literary Café at “For Sisters Only”a regional empowerment and entertainment expo,host for Spoken Word Fridays on Charlotte’s # 1 radio station Power98, the Red Bull Street-Style Contest, 3 style DJ Battle, and “Say What Spoken Word Workshop”, Fresh fest B-Boy Break Dance Con.
Among his many noteworthy accomplishments and performances, Bluz has participated in projects and appearances for Junior Achievement, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Blumenthal Performing Art Center, The Afro-American Cultural Center, Wachovia, and Bank of America. Major radio and television network performances include HBO’s Def Poetry, CBS Radio, Radio Disney, ESPN, Speed TV, BET, and the first induction ceremony for the NASCAR Hall Of Fame.
As a testament to his tremendous talent and wide scale appeal, Bluz has shared the stage with many distinguished poets and international recording artists ranging from Taylor Mali, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, and Gil Scott Heron to Outkast, John Legend, and Pink Floyd. These diverse audiences have embraced his dynamic performing ability and presence on stage. |
